Candice (Candy) Atherton (born 21 September 1955) was the British Member of Parliament for Falmouth and Camborne. She is a member of the Labour Party and was most active in protecting the dolphins, foxes, and Cornish identity of her constituency. In January 2005 she became embroiled in a dirty tricks scandal which involved her allegedly asking her assistant Paul Phillips to dig up dirt on a Conservative rival with the aim of having him de-selected by his party. Phillips resigned and took Atherton before the employment tribunal board, claiming her actions were homophobic. However, Atherton was cleared of all wrongdoing.
Candy Atherton lost her seat to Liberal Democrat Julia Goldsworthy in the May 2005 General Election. Goldsworthy won with a swing of 9.5% and a majority of 1,886.
