Caissa

Caissa is a Greek dryad venerated as the goddess of chess. The myth originated in a poem called Caissa, written in 1763 by Sir William Jones. In the poem, Caissa repelled the advances of the Greek God of War, Mars, who received the advice of the God of Sport, which was to create a game for her, that game being chess. Template:Myth-stub
