Christelijk Nationaal Vakverbond

Christelijk Nationaal Vakverbond (CNV, The National Federation of Christian Trade Unions in the Netherlands) is a federation of trade unions of the Netherlands. As of 2003 it has 11 affiliated trade unions with a total membership of about 360,000. The organisation is completely independent of governmental or political groups, and is open for everybody to join. The CNV claim broad grassroots support, spread throughout the Netherlands. The CNV unions guard and advocate employees’ rights in matters related to collective labour agreements, social security, and pensions.
CNV was founded on May 13, 1909 in Arnhem to represent Protestant and Catholic workers. After objections from religious leaders it became a purely Protestant organisation between 1912 and the end of the 1970s.
