Bundaberg Rum is a dark rum made in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia. It is Australia's only well-known locally-produced spirit and is known locally as 'Bundy'.
Bundaberg Rum came about in 1888 after some sugar millers got the idea of using the the molasses produced in their refining of sugarcane to make a rum. Production ceased from 1907 to 1914 and from 1936 to 1939 after fires, the second of which caused rum from the factory to spill into the Burnett River. In 1961 a Polar Bear was the unusual choice for the company's mascot.
