Bülent Ecevit (born on May 28 1926) is a Turkish politician and was also a writer and journalist.
One of Turkey's most famous politicians he was elected into the Turkish parliament for the first time in 1957. In 1974 he became prime minister as the leader of "Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi" (the Republican People's Party). He gave the order of the Turkish liberation of Northern Cyprus in July 20, 1974. Ecevit was made a prisoner by the military junta after the coup on September 12, 1980. He returned to politics in 1987 and became the leader of the "Demokratik Sol Parti" (the Democratic Left Party) in 1989, finally becoming the prime minister again between 1999 and 2002.
