Brienz Rothorn Bahn

The Brienz Rothorn Bahn (BRB) is a cog railway in Switzerland, which drives from Brienz on the Brienzer Rothorn.
The course was opened after two years construction period 1892, came however already soon into financial difficulties. Debt were among other things the 1895 opening of Schynige Platte Railway and the 1898 open Jungfraubahn course, as well as the First World War. 1914 were adjusted therefore the enterprise and the course was shut down.
1931 dared backer the reopening of the distance, since the railway tracks were despite the long rest break still in good condition. Later one decided consciously not to electrify the distance which made it from 1953 to 1990 a special attraction: the only operating steam locomotive in Switzerland.
The distance of the BRB begins in Brienz 566 m above sea level, equivalent opposite the station of the Swiss Federal Railways' Brünigbahn. 7.5 km long distance on the Lake Brienz with maximally 25% by some tunnel a beautiful prospect leads and offers. On approximately half of the distance, at the station Planalp with all courses the store of water is filled up. The distance ends briefly underneath the summit in the station Rothorn Kulm on 2244 m.
