Robert Brookmeyer (born December 19, 1929) is an American jazz valve trombonist, pianist, and arranger.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Brookmeyer first gained widespread public attention as a member of Gerry Mulligan's quartet from 1954 to 1957. He later worked with Jimmy Giuffre before rejoining Mulligan's Concert Jazz Band.
In the late 1950s he moved to New York City to work as a freelance arranger. In the 1960s he also worked as a studio musician, co-led a quintet with Clark Terry, and worked in the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis orchestra. In the 1970s he arranged for Lewis's band.
After a period in Europe he has returned to the United States, where he continues to write and record.
In June 2005, Brookmeyer joined ArtistShare and announced a project to fund an upcoming third album featuring his New Art Orchestra. The CD will be titled Spirit Music, and is expected to be ready by March 2006.
