Biblespeak
|
Biblespeak is a euphemism for a kind of discourse which frames concepts and language in highly Biblical or otherwise religious terms. In a sense, Biblespeak is a metaphorical language in its own right, because it's heavily dependent on a source —the Bible —as a common reference for its elementary concepts, which tend to be metaphysical (spiritual) in nature, and find little meaning if translated to secular otherwise common terms.
As a language like English may be a vehicle for biblespeak, the use of religious metaphor carries an implied stipulation to Biblical concepts and dogma, thus tolerating little inclusion for outside terms —such as those used in psychology for example. Hence Biblespeak is not considered a culturally neutral basis for communication. Some seek connections and translations between similar such religious frameworks, on the basis of finding common spiritual concepts.
