Betty Ford Center
|
The Betty Ford Center was co-founded by former United States First Lady Betty Ford and her friend, Ambassador Leonard Firestone, in 1982. Mrs. Ford's decision to undertake such a project fell on the heels of her own battle with chemical addiction, and after her release from the U.S. Naval Hospital, she pursued the goal of creating a treatment center that emphasized the needs of women. The non-profit Betty Ford Center reserves 50% of its space for women, and the programs are gender-specific.
The center is located on the campus of the Eisenhower Medical Center at 39-000 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage, California.
