Barcelos is a city located in Braga district in the north of Portugal the city population is 22,207 in 7 parishes the municipality has 121,245 in 89 parishes.
Is one of the growing municipalities in the country, especially in Minho metropolitan area.
The city is well known by its textile industry and adobe industry.
Originally a Roman settlement, it expanded and became the seat of the First Duke of Bragança in the 15th century. The palace of the Dukes of Bragança was destroyed by an earthquake in 1755 and is now an open-air museum.
The town's famous symbol is a rooster. Legend has it that the bird had been cooked and was about to be served as the main course in a magistrate's dinner. Then the rooster crowed ecstatically to prove the innocence of a pilgrim wrongfully accused of theft.
