Bangsar
|
Bangsar is a popular district in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, known for its nightlife.
Also known as the nightlife centre of Kuala Lumpur for Yuppies, Professionals and Business(wo)men. Bangsar is the centre for the young, the rich, and the cool of the capital.
It is probably also the most well managed nightlife area in Malaysia. It is rather relaxed and laid back compared to the hardcore loci in central Kuala Lumpur. You will find English and Irish style pubs, French, Italian, Spanish style wine bars, Arab style Bazaars mixed in with the local flavours of Chinese corners, Mamak stalls and Indian vegetarian.
In addition, Bangsar is, contrary to central Kuala Lumpur, completely free of drugs and prostitution. This makes it stand out as a very well managed nightlife district.
These qualities of Bangsar are also attracting a huge number of tourists, in particular those that choose cozy bars for discussion and relaxing rather than the noisy heavy-beat hip-hop places of central Kuala Lumpur.
Although the bars around Bangsar are relatively small compared to those of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, the price level is the same.
But Bangsar is not unthreatened. Recent signals from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall betray a significant envy. Several times, the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur has threatened to limit opening hours for Bangsar, so as to give the central Kuala Lumpur additional advantage.
Furthermore, unfettered construction projects are threatening the very atmosphere of Bangsar. Recently, for instance, Bangsar's breathing hole, the central garden and seafood village, has been destroyed with more commercial buildings in its place. And the ill-designed Mid Valley - a huge, bunker-like, concrete shopping complex - with completely inadequate road and parking facilities, has brough serious traffic congestion to the previously easily accessible area.
