In the fictional Star Trek universe, Bajor is the homeworld of the Bajorans. It orbits the star Bajor-B'hava'el in the Bajoran sector. The politics and culture of Bajor play an important role in the show Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Bajor is a Class M planet that has some 4 moons. Bajor's atmosphere has more of a purplish tint, as a result, oceans viewed from space will appear more purple than blue. Major Kira, upon seeing Earth for the first time, remarked about how the seas did not look purple enough for her. As of the end of the DS9 series, Bajor is currently not a member of the United Federation of Planets. There is also at least one more class-M planet in the system, Bajor 8.
There is an ancient city called B'Hala located on Bajor that was under the ground for 30,000 years.
Bajor was once occupied by the Cardassians for fifty years; the Cardassian occupiers stripped the planet of its mineral resources and enslaved the populace. A popular guerrilla movement overthrew and expelled the Cardassians; aftereffects of the occupation continued to be felt throughout the run of DS9. However the planet suffered serious damage as a result. In the following years the Federation participated in relief efforts to help in the rebuilding of the planet.
Terok Nor (Deep Space Nine), a Cardassian mining station, was in orbit of Bajor until it was placed under joint Bajoran and Starfleet control after the end of the Cardassian Occupation. After the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole, it was moved to orbit the wormhole's mouth.
