Bad News Bears

- For the original 1976 movie starring Walter Matthau and Tatum O'Neal, see The Bad News Bears.
Bad News Bears is a remake of the 1976 movie The Bad News Bears, produced by Paramount Pictures. It is directed by Richard Linklater, and stars Billy Bob Thornton, Greg Kinnear, Marcia Gay Harden and Sammi Kraft.
Previews show that, although it stays true to the form of the original, it contains a lot more crude humor, as the writers are also the writing team behind the notorious Thornton movie Bad Santa.
Synopsis
Billy Bob Thornton plays Walter Matthau's original role of Morris Buttermaker, a washed-up alcoholic minor-league baseball player. Unlike the first film, where Buttermaker was a pool cleaner by trade, Thornton's Buttermaker is now an exterminator, who was kicked out of professional baseball for attacking an umpire. Also unlike the first film, he is depicted as a crude womanizer, whereas that is not so clear in the 1976 original.
The role of Amanda Whurlitzer, the fireballing daughter of one of Buttermaker's ex-girlfriends, that helped make Tatum O'Neal famous will be played by Sammi Kraft.
