Autostade

The Autostade (officially known in English as the Automotive Stadium) was a Canadian football stadium that formerly stood in Montreal, Quebec. It was the home of the Montreal Alouettes from 1968-1976, except for a brief period in 1972 when the team played at Molson Stadium. The stadium is best remembered for its odd shape, consisting of nineteen independent and separate slabs of pre-cast concrete that were arranged around the field. The stadium, which sat 33,172, was financed by donations from the five major Canadian auto manufacturers at the time: American Motors, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, and Volvo. The stadium, never particularly successful at drawing fans, was demolished after the Alouettes moved to Stade Olympique in 1976.
