Athis-Mons

Athis-Mons is a town and commune in the suburbs of Paris, France. It is the chief town of a canton of the Essonne, in the north of this départment (arrondissement of Palaiseau). Population (1999): 29,427 (Athégiens).
It is located at the confluence of Orge and Seine rivers, and at the southern edge of the international airport of Orly.
It was formed in 1817 by joining 2 villages, Athis at the edge of the Seine and Mons on the close plate. Nowadays the low district is commonly called Athis-Val.
The canton has 2 communes and 36,615 inhabitants.
