Argentine War of Independence
|
Argentina declared independence first in 1810, but it had only a little local effect in Buenos Aires. Spanish troops tried to suppress liberal ideas but Military campaigns led by Generals José de San Martín and Simón Bolívar between 1814 and 1816 made independence increasingly a reality. On July 9, 1816, an Argentine congress met at Tucuman, declaring Argentine independence and adopting a constitution.
