Arete (Greek: Αρετή) can refer to several different concepts, people, and things:
- Arete is an Ancient Greek word, meaning "excellence".
- Arete became more specific when applied to moral character, and is normally translated as virtue.
- In Greek mythology, Arete was a goddess of virtue, and a daughter of Praxidike.
- Queen Arete is a character in Homer's epic, Odyssey.
- 197 Arete is an asteroid.
- Areté (http://www.aretemagazine.com/t_index.jsp) is an arts magazine.
Greek place names are normally transliterated Areti:
- Areti, a village in the Cyclades
- Areti, a village in the northern part of the prefecture of Ilia

Arête, from the French, is etymologically unrelated to any of the above:
- An arête is a thin ridge of rock that is formed by glaciers.
