Ares Galaxy

Ares Galaxy is a peer-to-peer file sharing program.
The publisher describes the network as similar in function to Kazaa's FastTrack network. Ares used to work off the Gnutella network, but six months after its creation, they switched to their own network, consisting of leaves and supernodes.
There are several reasons why people prefer Ares galaxy over other networks such as Kazaa and Gnutella. Proponents of the software claim that it has faster download times, better swarm downloads, no spyware or adware, and faster and more complete searches than other file-sharing programs. Ares also has the additional feature of chat rooms. Also, as of September 2003, Ares is not currently being targeted by the RIAA as Kazaa is. It also doesn't have slow connection times like Gnutella.
There are two stand-alone alternative clients that connect to the same network. Warez is basically a clone of Ares Galaxy but with a few minor extras and advertising, and FileCroc is a distinct program.
In addition, users of the giFT filesharing architecture can now use a giFT-Ares plug-in to access the Ares network. Because Ares and Gnutella both use the same hash function to uniquely identify files and giFT can also connect to the Gnutella network, giFT users operating both plug-ins can swarm downloads from both networks simultaneously.
Ares also supports "hashlinks": unique file identifiers in a clickable form; when clicked, Ares will look for & download that specific file. Some sites are beginning to post verified Ares hashlinks for popular media.
PestPatrol detects Ares as a trojan horse, but that is only because PestPatrol is detecting another Ares program used as a bruteforce password cracker (which is no longer in development).
