Anna Záborská (born June 7, 1948 in Zürich) is a Slovakian Member of the European Parliament. She was elected on the Christian Democratic Movement ticket and sits with the European People's Party group.
On July 26, 2004 she was elected Chair of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality. This election was controversial. As a conservative Catholic politician Ms Záborská is staunchly opposed to abortion. She has also been widely quoted as saying that homosexuality is a disease and "sufferers" should be confined to psychiatric hospitals. When the European People's Party nominated her for this position, the Party of European Socialists refused to accept it as part of their seat-sharing arrangement with the EPP. Eventually the PES members on the committee abstained from voting on the election of the Chair, and the EPP dominated remainder approved her appointment.
