Anglo-Iranian Oil Company
|
The Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC) was founded in 1909, as the Anglo-Persian Oil Company, following the discovery of a large oil field in Masjet Soleiman, Iran. A license to search for, refine, produce, and export oil, was granted in 1913. The company changed its name to the AIOC in 1935. The AIOC controlled oil in Iran prior to the nationalization of the industry by Mohammed Mossadeq in 1951, which lead to the Abadan Crisis.
The AIOC became The British Petroleum Company in 1954.
