Andy Richter Controls the Universe
|
Andy Richter Controls the Universe was a short-lived sitcom (2002-2003) on FOX starring Andy Richter as a man named Andy just trying to make it in the real world. Irene Malloy played his prospective love interest Wendy, although she was actually going out with Keith. The other main actors and their roles are:
- Paget Brewster (Jessica)
- Jonathan Slavin (Byron)
- James Patrick Stuart (Keith)
The show featured Andy Richter (once a co-host of Late Night with Conan O'Brien) playing a twisted version of himself. In the show, Andy writes short stories with the aid of his active imagination, though to pay the bills Andy works at a large conglomerate in Chicago writing instruction manuals. To make it through the days, Andy uses his imagination to make his life more interesting.
Each episode shows what Andy thinks could have happened on a single day, what should have happened and what actually happened, creating an interesting parallel with reality. For example, when Andy woke up in Byron's bed in a hotel, we see his ideas that it could have been due to a mischievous gang of homosexuals or an abduction by aliens who were a bit sloppy on the details.
An interesting bit of trivia is that the outside shots of Andy's office are taken from the Duke & Duke building from Trading Places.
Although cancelled after one season, reruns currently air on HDNet.
