Amoeba (Star Trek)

In the fictional Star Trek universe, the "Amoeba" is an alien lifeform encountered in the original Star Trek episode "The Immunity Syndrome". It is a space-borne single-celled organism that dwarfs the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701). The amoeba destroyed the USS Intrepid (NCC-1631). Able to reproduce itself much like an Earth-based amoeba, it represented a dangerous threat to the galaxy. To confront this, the Enterprise crew attached an antimatter charge to the amoeba's nucleus and detonated it, thereby stopping its rampage.
