Ali'i
|
Ali'i is the chiefly or noble rank in Hawaiian society. Ali'i are the highest people in indigenous Hawai'ian culture. As such they rank above both kahuna (priests) and maka'ainana (commoners).
Ali'i are full of mana and can place and remove kapu on objects. Ali'i continued to rule the Hawai'ian islands until 1895 when Liliuokalani was deposed in a coup arranged by filibusters.
