After the Fox

Caccia alla volpe (After the Fox) is a 1966 film comedy produced in Italy and directed by Vittorio De Sica. The screenplay, however, is in English, by Neil Simon. Peter Sellers stars as "the fox". Victor Mature, in his last major role, is also featured.
The plot, such as it is, concerns the efforts of a professional thief (Sellers) to pose as a major director in order to pull off a big "score".
The film is notable for its early inclusion of "in-jokes". Mature, for example, plays an aging Hollywood leading man, which of course he was. In addition, there are jabs at some of the top film directors of the time, including Cecil B. de Mille, John Huston, Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni and De Sica himself.
