Aethelwald

Aethelwald was the son of Ethelred of Wessex. He was also the cousin of Edward the Elder of Mercia. Aethelwald fought his cousin during much of Edward's early reign. He staged a rebellion against his cousin (Edward) because he feels he has as much right to become King because of Alfred's will. Went to the Danelaw, he attacked Wessex with his Danish Allies. He defeated Edward but managed to die in battle, thus allowing Edward to secure his powerful position.
