Abebooks (ABE) is an international internet based listing service for booksellers based in Victoria, British Columbia. Over 70 millions new, used and rare books are listed on ABE.
For a modest monthly payment and a commission on sales, booksellers list books on ABE. When a customer orders the book, the order is transferred to the bookseller. ABE offers credit card processing for booksellers at a modest charge, but other payment mechanisms may be arranged directly with the booksellers. Large well established booksellers such as Powell's Books in Portland, Oregon and the Strand Bookstore in New York City list their books on ABE as do thousands of amateur booksellers as well as sophisticated antiquarian booksellers. Quality of service is generally good but ABE provides no mechanism to rate booksellers. A careful shopper will compare shipping rates as well as book price.
