Adolph Joffe

Adolf Abramovich Joffe (Адольф Абрамович Йоффе) (October 10 1883 – November 16 1927) was a Russian revolutionary and an associate of Leon Trotsky. He was of Jewish origin.
He became involved in revolutionary activities at an early age. He was forced into exile first in Germany and then in Austria. He edited Pravda with Trotsky in Vienna from about 1906 to 1912. In 1912 he was arrested while visiting Russia and imprisoned and exiled to Siberia.
In 1917 he escaped from Siberia and took part in the Bolshevik revolution. He was part of a delegation led by Trotsky to negotiate the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk by which Russia withdrew from World War I.
He remained a loyal supporter of Leon Trotsky and committed suicide after Trotksy's fall from power.
