- 1792 - The New York Stock Exchange was formed.
- 1846 - Adolphe Sax patented the saxophone.
- 1902 - The Antikythera mechanism, the oldest known surviving geared mechanism, was discovered in a shipwreck off the Greek island of Antikythera.
