Absente is a 110-proof spirit that is marketed as a replacement for absinthe (absinthe is illegal in many countries, including the U.S.). It is made with southern wormwood (Artemisia abrotanum), instead of common wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), and therefore contains no thujone, and is technically not absinthe. Many people who have had "real" absinthe consider Absente inferior.
