A Treatise on Electriciy and Magnetism is an 1873 textbook on electromagnetism written by James Clerk Maxwell.
According to the comprehension of the major trend for the fundamental equations of electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic potential is not explicitly involved. In his original book, the equations are compiled to two sets.
The first set is
- <math>\mathbf{E} = - \nabla \phi - \frac{\partial \mathbf{A}}{\partial t} <math>
- <math>\mathbf{B} = \nabla \times \mathbf{A} <math>
The second set is
- <math>\nabla \cdot \mathbf{D} = \rho<math>
- <math>\nabla \times \mathbf{H} - \frac{\partial \mathbf{D}}{\partial t} = \mathbf{J} <math>
