4-Tel On View
|
4-Tel On View was a sequence of teletext pages shown in the early mornings on British television's Channel 4 in the 1980s and 1990s before the start of each day's scheduled programmes. Consisting of a cyclically repeated subset of Channel 4's Teletext pages, with test card music playing in the background, it acted as something of a substitute test card for Channel 4. It ceased to be broadcast once the channel began 24-hour programming.
Similar programmes using an almost identical format include ITV's Nightscreen, which has since replaced teletext pages with a more modern form of multimedia and video playback technology, and CLOSE on BBC 1 and BBC 2, still appearing on the latter channel as a substitute for the test card at times in the small hours when no other programmes are being broadcast.
