The 1977 Atlantic hurricane season was an ongoing event in the annual cycle of tropical cyclone formation. It officially started June 1, 1977, and lasted until November 30, 1977.
The 1977 season got off to a late start, with the first named storm forming in late August. Hurricane Anita was the most intense storm of the season, reaching Category 5 strength. It killed 10 when it made landfall south of the United States/Mexico border. The amount of damage is unrecorded. Hurricane Babe did about $10 million in damage (1977 dollars) to southern Louisiana, but caused no reported fatalities.
