The Ásbyrgi canyon is lying in the north of Iceland. Like part of the Niagara Falls, it has the form of a horse-shoe. And actually this comes from a former waterfall of the river Jökulsá á Fjöllum, which has long since changed its course.
The canyon is part of the Jökulsárgljúfur National Park.
In the canyon, there is a birchwood and a small lake with a lot of different ducks.
In the middle of the canyon, a big rock is to be seen, high of 25 m. It is called Eyjan (meaning the island). The canyon has the nickname: Odin's footprint, because a folk tale explains the unusual form of the canyon by a footprint of Odin's horse Sleipnir.
