Victoria Day

Victoria Day is a public holiday in Canada, celebrated on the Monday on or before May 24, Queen Victoria's birthday. An amendment to the Statutes of Canada in 1952 established the celebration of Victoria Day on the Monday preceding May 25. In 1957, Victoria Day was permanently appointed as the Queen of Canada's birthday in Canada. In the United Kingdom, the Queen's birthday is celebrated in June. Other Commonwealth countries celebrate the Queen's birthday on other days.

In Canada, this holiday and Canada Day are celebrated with fireworks.

This is the first of the summer long weekends in Canada. Known colloquially as "May two-four weekend" (a two-four is a case of 24 bottles of beer).

In Quebec, the Parti Québécois government renamed the holiday Dollard des Ormeaux Day, and in 2002 changed that to la Fête des Patriotes in honour of the Patriotes Rebellion. Most Anglophone Quebeckers continue to call it Victoria Day.
