Transvaal
The Transvaal was one of the provinces of South Africa until 1994. The province no longer exists, and its territory has now forms all, or part of, the provinces of Gauteng, North West Province, Limpopo Province and Mpumalanga Province.The Transvaal took its name from the Vaal River.
On January 17, 1852 the United Kingdom recognized the independence of the Transvaal. This country became a republic and Paul Kruger became its first president on December 30, 1880. It lost its independence and became a province of South Africa after the Boer War.
