Petrified Tree
Petrified Forest National Park is located in northeast Arizona, in the western United States. It features a large concentration of petrified wood, hence the name "Petrified Forest".

The northern part of the park, which is situated north of the Interstate 40 between Holbrook and Navajo, features the Painted Desert. This is an arid badland, where erosion has created a colorful spectre.

The southern part, where most of the petrified wood is found, also features many petroglyphs, Indian rock carvings.

The petrified forest area was designated a National Monument in 1906. The Painted Desert was added later, and in 1962 it received National Park status.
