Pacific-Antarctic Ridge

The Pacific-Antarctic Ridge is located at plates with cracks in the Earths crust from which the two plates (North American and Eurasian Plates) are not dividing but making new land at an approximate rate of 2 or 3 cm per annum. This is because of convection currents in the mantle pushing the plates apart.

There are approximately 7 plates on the Earths crust however more can be counted if you look in detail. When the plates meet they can be very destructive as they are generally the causes of Earthquakes and volcanoes, as plates an often slip and cause mas destruction. Take the prosperous port of Kobe for an example on 7th September 1998 a huge Earthquake ripped through kobe causing billions of dollors of damage and killing, injuring and destroying the homes of hundreds of thousands of people.
