Pachypodium is a genus included in the plant Family Apocynaceae. The genus name means thick (pachy) foot (podium) and refers to the thick, almost branchless stems. As other members of the Apocynaceae family, Pachypodiums possess a milky latex, rich in alkaloids, which, in the case of ''P. lealii (bottle tree), can be very poisonous.
