Its name is in honor of a tribe of
Indians,
the
Maubila tribe. As of
2000
its population was 399,843. Its
county
seat is
Mobile.
History

was established on
December
18,
1812.
Geography

Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,258
km²
(1,644
mi²).
3,194 km² (1,233 mi²) of it is land and 1,064 km² (411 mi²)
of it is water. The total area is 25.00% water.
