Meyer Guggenheim

Meyer Guggenheim (1828 - 1905) was born in Switzerland and emigrated to the United States. He made a fortune in mining and smelting, and fathered seven sons, including Benjamin, who drowned in the Titanic shipwreck, and Solomon, whose donated collection of modern art formed the basis of the gallery at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
