census, the city had a total population of 35,335. It is located near the Hocking
River, approximately 33 miles southeast of
Columbus,
Ohio. It is the

seat of
Fairfield

History
\nLancaster was originally named
"New Lancaster", and was established in
1803
by Ebenezer Zane, who received a land grant for laying out Zane's Trace. Zane's
Trace was a trail through the Ohio Country, from
Wheeling,
West Virginia to
Maysville,
Kentucky.
