Pegram is a town located in Cheatham County, Tennessee. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,146.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 20.7 km² (8.0 mi²). 20.7 km² (8.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,146 people, 773 households, and 636 families residing in the town. The population density is 103.8/km² (269.0/mi²). There are 801 housing units at an average density of 38.8/km² (100.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 95.06% White, 3.73% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 0.51% from two or more races. 1.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 773 households out of which 43.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.4% are married couples living together, 8.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.7% are non-families. 15.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.03.

In the town the population is spread out with 28.7% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 35.8% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 7.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 103.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.4 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $55,259, and the median income for a family is $59,306. Males have a median income of $40,727 versus $30,268 for females. The per capita income for the town is $22,980. 5.0% of the population and 4.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.7% of those under the age of 18 and 8.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
