Yorktown Heights is an unincorporated hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located in the town of Yorktown in Westchester County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the hamlet had a total population of 7,972.
Geography
Yorktown Heights is located at 41°16'38" North, 73°46'53" West (41.277347, -73.781290)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the hamlet has a total area of 14.8 km² (5.7 mi²). 14.8 km² (5.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 7,972 people, 2,629 households, and 2,163 families residing in the hamlet. The population density is 540.0/km² (1,399.3/mi²). There are 2,661 housing units at an average density of 180.2/km² (467.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the hamlet is 90.49% White, 2.41% African American, 0.06% Native American, 4.69% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.85% from other races, and 1.48% from two or more races. 5.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,629 households out of which 44.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.0% are married couples living together, 7.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.7% are non-families. 15.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.02 and the average family size is 3.37.
