Woodland Beach, Michigan

Woodland Beach is an unincorporated community in Monroe County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a Census-designated place (CDP) used for statistical purposes and does not have any legal status as an incorporated municipality. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 2,179.

The community is in Frenchtown Charter Township on the shore of Lake Erie about four miles northeast of downtown Monroe. The area defined by the CDP is bounded on the northeast by the Stony Creek, on the northwest by N. Dixie Highway (with a cutout to include Englewood Dr. west of Nadeau Rd.), and on the southwest by S. Grove Dr. The CDP of Detroit Beach is adjacent to the southwest and the CDP of Stony Point is about three miles to the east.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,179 people, 794 households, and 605 families residing in the community. The population density is 1,617.9/km² (4,155.0/mi²). There are 831 housing units at an average density of 617.0/km² (1,584.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 98.12% White, 0.23% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 1.38% from two or more races. 0.87% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 794 households out of which 38.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.6% are married couples living together, 10.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.8% are non-families. 20.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.15.

In the community the population is spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 32.5% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 7.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 100.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.1 males.

The median income for a household in the community is $45,417, and the median income for a family is $47,212. Males have a median income of $36,296 versus $23,571 for females. The per capita income for the community is $17,824. 7.1% of the population and 7.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.0% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
