Wixom, Michigan

Wixom is a city located in Oakland County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 13,263. The city is also home to the Wixom Assembly Plant, a Ford Motor Company auto plant. The Lincoln LS and Town Car, the Ford Thunderbird, as well as the Ford GT, are all manufactured here.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 24.5 km² (9.5 mi²). 24.2 km² (9.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.27% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 13,263 people, 5,889 households, and 3,150 families residing in the city. The population density is 548.3/km² (1,420.0/mi²). There are 6,086 housing units at an average density of 251.6/km² (651.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.40% White, 2.50% African American, 0.51% Native American, 2.85% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.55% from other races, and 2.14% from two or more races. 3.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,889 households out of which 30.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.8% are married couples living together, 8.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 46.5% are non-families. 37.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.24 and the average family size is 3.07.
In the city the population is spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 14.0% from 18 to 24, 39.1% from 25 to 44, 16.5% from 45 to 64, and 5.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 30 years. For every 100 females there are 109.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 108.0 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $44,320, and the median income for a family is $64,918. Males have a median income of $45,798 versus $30,942 for females. The per capita income for the city is $27,543. 5.4% of the population and 4.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.0% of those under the age of 18 and 2.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
