West Slope, Oregon

West Slope is an unincorporated suburb of Portland, Oregon and a census-designated place. It is located in Washington County, to the west of Portland's West Hills neighborhood, to the northeast of Raleigh Hills and south of Highway 26.

As of the 2000 census, the suburb had a total population of 6,442.

In a plan agreed to by the county and Beaverton, West Slope is scheduled for annexation to Beaverton by 2010.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the neighborhood has a total area of 4.5 km² (1.7 mi²), none of which is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 6,442 people, 2,873 households, and 1,643 families residing in the neighborhood. The population density is 1,437.7/km² (3,727.1/mi²). There are 3,057 housing units at an average density of 682.3/km² (1,768.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the neighborhood is 88.70% White, 4.30% Asian, 1.44% African American, 0.70% Native American, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 2.22% from other races, and 2.48% from two or more races. 4.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,873 households out of which 26.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.9% are married couples living together, 7.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.8% are non-families. 32.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.22 and the average family size is 2.85.

In the neighborhood the population is spread out with 21.2% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 95.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.8 males.

The median income for a household in the neighborhood is $50,984, and the median income for a family is $66,974. Males have a median income of $46,232 versus $35,890 for females. The per capita income for the neighborhood is $32,514. 8.1% of the population and 6.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.1% of those under the age of 18 and 0.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
