Vanport Township is a township located in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,451.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 3.1 km² (1.2 mi²). 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 21.85% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,451 people, 775 households, and 422 families residing in the township. The population density is 596.0/km² (1,551.2/mi²). There are 827 housing units at an average density of 339.7/km² (884.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 98.07% White, 1.38% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.41% from two or more races. 0.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 775 households out of which 12.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.6% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.5% are non-families. 44.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 27.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.87 and the average family size is 2.55.

In the township the population is spread out with 12.5% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 20.1% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 35.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 55 years. For every 100 females there are 75.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 69.7 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $26,993, and the median income for a family is $39,688. Males have a median income of $35,408 versus $25,688 for females. The per capita income for the township is $19,088. 3.8% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.0% of those under the age of 18 and 4.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
