Vanessa Paradis

Vanessa Chantal Paradis (born December 22 1972) is a French singer and actress. She was discovered on the TV show L'Ecole Des Fans. Vanessa recorded her first single "La Magie Des Surprises-Parties" (The Magic of Surprise Parties) in 1985 and became famous with the song "Joe le Taxi" in 1987. She has since appeared in several films, most famously 1999's "La Fille Sur Le Pont" (The Girl on the Bridge), a black a white love story co-starring Daniel Auteuil, and 2004's "Mon Ange". It has been said that her level of fame in France, is the equivalent of Shania Twain in the U.S., without the country overtones.

In 1992, Vanessa famously promoted a new fragrance for Chanel simply titled Coco. In 2004 they chose her once again to promote Chanel's new line of handbags called 'Ligne Cambon'.

She is in a relationship with American actor Johnny Depp with whom she has a daughter, Lily Rose Melody (born May 27, 1999), and a son, Jack John Christopher III (born April 9, 2002). Vanessa caught Johnny's eye in a hotel lobby in Paris in 1998, while Depp was there shooting the film The Ninth Gate. They are distant to the world of fame and are protective of their privacy. They divide their time living in a house in the Hollywood Hills and a villa in the South of France. They also own apartments in Paris and Manhattan. Vanessa's 'Bliss' album was openly dedicated to Johnny and their daughter Lily Rose. They have now been together for seven years.
