Meetup

(spam) You signed up for wikipedia.meetup.com, and I was wondering if you were interested in the forthcoming London meet. I know it's a bit of a stretch from Bristol way, but in case you didn't know... Martin 20:52, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Adminship

Rob, I was surprised someone who has been here as long as you was not a sysop. Hopefully you won't mind that I have nominated you at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. Angela. 10:40, Apr 29, 2004 (UTC)

The The

Your views are required on Talk:Conservative Party (UK), as way back when, when we looked at the official party names you supported the use of the definite article. I would not be offended if you argued against me, if your opinion had changed. Mintguy (T) 09:05, 4 May 2004 (UTC)

Jo Moore

Thanks very much for spotting my incredible Hendry/Byers "typo" at Jo Moore. I couldn't help but burst out laughing at my own daftness when I saw your summary appear on my watchlist! I fear what Freud would've made of it all!

I couldn't drum up much enthusiasm to write about Moore, especially since the incident is already recounted in Byers' article, but it was the very last red link on 100 Worst Britons, so I had to do it. Pete/Pcb21 (talk) 23:03, 5 May 2004 (UTC)

Sysop

Congratulations! You are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. Good luck. Angela. 23:54, May 6, 2004 (UTC)

Birmingham

Hi RB these were the words that came up and i am still banned:

Forbidden You were denied access because: Access denied by access control list.

Also i decided to remove my user page info because i don't want it there as it has personal information about me, Andy Mabbet (sic) has reverted this information which surely is a violation of vandelising a members user page, sorry to drag you into this but i am finding wikipedia extremely corrupt and quite eliteist amongts some of the members, i joined on the advice of angela who has been really helpfull but one person is seriously trying his hardest to pester me and hope i go away, if i stop responding it will mean that this address is blocked as well, i don't really know what else to do, the majority on the page voted for Nick Mason to stay as you can read but one person refuses to accept this, please can you help me as i don't wish to draw angela into this, i simply don't wish for my information to be on my user page as it is personal and i didn't realise how petty certain users could be... Thanks in anticipation?

Nick.

the majority on the page voted for Nick Mason to stay - there was no such vote, and no such majority (if I'm wrong, let's see some evidence). Andy Mabbett 19:18, 31 May 2004 (UTC)

Mis-spelled links

Howdy. Just a quick thank you for pitching in with the misspelled links list. Good job. - TB 11:11, Jun 4, 2004 (UTC)

Resonance FM

After you made the mention of Resonance FM I had made in the article about The Wire a link "just in case" I decided to go ahead and create the article. I would be grateful if you could take a look at the article for me since it is my first new article here on Wikipedia and I wouldn't be surprised if I have made some glaring errors. Thanks! :-) --Nicholas Lativy 17:16, 22 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Clifton C. img

Rob, your photo is indeed better - I took mine from the east to get the name on the wall included (and failed because I couldn't get a wide enough shot), but managed only to get the whole thing as a silhouette! Next time I'm up there I may try again at getting the angle right, but for now we should definitely stick with yours --Steinsky 14:26, 2 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Bristol collaboration / featured article

Hi Rob, I was wondering what you thought of trying to get somewhere local up to standard for a possible featured article, I was thinking maybe Bristol Harbour might make an interesting featured page one day. I'll crosspost this to Arpingstone as well. --Joe D 21:43, 11 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I've continued this at Talk:Bristol Harbour. --Joe D 23:23, 12 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Copyvio boilerplates

Thanks for fixing my copyvio stuff at Latvian Legion Estland. I didn't know about those two boilerplates you used. RickK 20:51, Oct 23, 2004 (UTC)

Adding to copyvio list

THanks for the heads up, i am a new user so i am not accustmoed with all the rules, next time however i will post on that page. 578 21:53, 24 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Rob, I found this line on the list of possible copyright problems

"More copyvio lost & found, featuring Diego Maradona and more Power Rangers than you can shake a stick at"

What does "lost & found" mean? I added the copyvio notices to the Maradona images, was there something else I should have done as well?

The Internationale

Hi, Joe. You took this out from The Internationale (album), calling it an "incorrect statement"...

This is unusual for Bragg: though he is known for his association with left-wing causes, overtly political songs are a minority within his repertoire.

What part of that is wrong, then? Overtly political songs aren't a tiny minority, but they are still a minority: a quick count of the tracks on Must I Paint You a Picture suggests perhaps 35%. And The Internationale is unusual as an all-political release: only "Between the Wars" really compares with it. And don't tell me that Bill isn't known for his association with left-wing causes. I'm confused by this edit. Please help. --Baffled of Bristol±

Over half of Back To Basics, well over half of DTTAH, 7/12 of EHE (the most recent), half of William Bloke, just under half of Reaching To The Converted and just under half of Victim of Geography are overtly political. Gigs and the Mermaid Avenue albums are also about 50%, not a minority. It is notable as an all political release, but the rest of the albums are also extremely political. Joe D (t) 20:29, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I think we differ on what constitutes "overt" politics - I make DTTAH 7/16, for example. (Yes, I have been counting, and I almost posted lots of long lists). I would still stand by a figure of... well, more like 40% than 35%. That's probably more than straightforward love songs, but it's still not a majority.

Anyway.

Obviously the disputed sentence isn't NPOV; I'll try again.

--rbrwr± 21:43, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Looking through the tracklistings again I can agree to a figure somewhere in the forties. Anyway, I'm quite happy with the replacement sentence (I should probably have tried one myself, but...).
I haven't been doing much with Bristol Harbour either lately (I found a big pile of books on Dorset so I've been working there instead!). Joe D (t) 00:36, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)

From Talk:A-Level

Hi, I have read your contribution regarding the Advanced Extension Award on the A Level page and to the fact that you sat for the A Level examinations in 1986. I am curious to know what A Level grades were certificated during that time.

Thanks.

In 1986 the A level grades were: A to E (A level passes), O (which counted as an O level pass) and (as I recall it) U.
See the UCAS UK qualifications guide (http://www.ucas.ac.uk/candq/ukquals/ukquals05.pdf), around page 84, for the history of A level grading. According to that the failing grade was F, not U; either way, that grade wouldn't go on a certificate, just on the results sheet. --rbrwr± 11:50, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Thanks

...for catching the copyvio at Cornell Chimes. Completely missed that one. I appreciate the help.

CC-by-sa

I noticed you added a copyright notice on your user page. You can add the DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual template to your page. You didn't specify the version of the license (it seems to imply that any version will do, which is what the template says). The template will also add your name to the category/list of other users who also use this license. If you don't want to use the template, you should still specify the version(s) of the licenses (or any version). -- Ram-Man 16:21, Dec 2, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for reminding me - I had been meaning to use the template, but I don't treat my user page as a high priority. It's done now. --rbrwr± 18:51, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Interscan

Sorry, I saw the article but had to go before making a full search of whether it was a copyvio. It seems to be one of those annoying cases that is almost certainly a copyright violation, but is not copied from anything that appears on Google. - SimonP 20:03, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)

Tristar and Red Sector Inc. (demogroup)

Hi Rbrwr -- I noticed that you've made some edits on the TRSI article and was wondering if you could leave your comments on the talk page as I've raised some concerns. Best regards, —RaD Man (talk) 23:38, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Category deletion

Hi, you seem to be an admin who's online now. Please delete Category:French Television. I created it by mistake, now I've replaced it by Category:French television. (I am not linking these pages, otherwise your talk page will be categorized). utcursch 11:45, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC)

Still's disease

Sorry about the copying. Didn't know about that. I'll remove any unedited material straight away. Mgm|(talk) 12:33, Dec 20, 2004 (UTC)

How does the current version look? Mgm|(talk) 12:38, Dec 20, 2004 (UTC)
I think that in some way all Wikipedia articles are a derivative from copyright material. I used the information given to write an article. Please keep me informed, if it becomes a problem, I'd like to keep an off-line copy of this version somewhere to make sure it's not entirely lost. Mgm|(talk) 12:58, Dec 20, 2004 (UTC)
I understand, no problem, just let me know in case it does get deleted. Mgm|(talk) 18:45, Dec 20, 2004 (UTC)

cleanup tags

I hadn't read the new guidelines when I moved the tags to the article. I will keep in mind to read over the guidelines periodically. I just thought that going through the talk page for every article will be very inefficient for people with a dial-up connection who want to work on the article. --CDN99 11:08, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Diane Duane

Hello. Have you heard back about the Diane Duane article that's been listed on WP:CP since November 24 yet? It always good if we can get old entries taken care of. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 17:38, 31 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Help with copyvio

Hi. I believe I have erroneously listed Goa trance music and Psychedelic trance on the copyvio page (on Jan 5). Further research by some users revealed that the content was actually taken from Wikipedia by a non-compliant mirror. Could you check it out for yourself and revert back the pages if possible. Thanks! -Ld | talk 20:48, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Wills Memorial Building

I am moving this to Commons (naturally, you will be fully creditied) - I am simply curious as to why there are two versions of the image:

I will be uploading the 600 px to Commons (under a name I will supply to you after I have done it) and deleting these two. Do you have a higher resolution image (the higher the better) due to the servers auto-resizing. --Oldak Quill 16:02, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Simply go to http://commons.wikimedia.org/ - press "Upload file" select the high resolution version (you will have to rename it to "Wills Memorial Building from road during day.jpg" and upload - it will replace the existing 600px version. --Oldak Quill 20:21, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)

WP:CP

Yeah, I noticed the duplication right after I left the comment. Thanks for fixing it--I was starting to (in a manner I later decided was ill-advised) when the 'pedia went down. Niteowlneils 23:26, 22 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Devon/Derby North

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for cleaning up my silly error! Teaches me right for not checking my changes. Cheers, Joolz 22:12, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Concerned?

Hi again Rb,

I won't point any fingers or accuse anyone of any wrong doing here, please could you simply take a look here and add discussion if you feel you would like to.

All the best, Nick. Nick Boulevard 18:49, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Red link recovery project

Howdy, Topbanana here, back after an extended absence. I've decided to round up a few of my more useful reports into a project with the goal of converting as many "red links" (links to non-existant articles) into "blue links" (links to real articles). As you've been active in fixing similar things in the past, I thought I'd let you know in case you're interested in joining up. If not, I won't be offended - we've all got lots todo here :) - TB 11:39, 2005 Jun 23 (UTC)
