Vacuum

Re: Bishop Tempier - good starting points would be:

  • "On March 7, 1277, the Bishop of Paris, Stephen Tempier, prohibited the teaching of 219 philosophical and theological theses that were being discussed and disputed in the faculty of arts under his jurisdiction" [1] (http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/condemnation/)
  • In 1277 the bishop of Paris, Etienne Tempier, found it necessary to condemn 219 philosophical propositions as contrary to the Christian belief. His main purpose was to defend God's absolute power against any attempt by the Aristotelian philosophers to set limits to it. Several of the condemned propositions set limits to God's power, saying for instance that He cannot make more than one world or to move the world so as to produce a vacuum. [2] (http://home.comcast.net/~icuweb/c02303.htm)

Rather unhelpfully, one says Stephen Tempier and the other says Etienne Tempier, but they are both talking about the Bishop of Paris in 1277. The point is that the Bishop was condemning neo-Aristotelian ideas, which included the aversion to the idea of a vacuum. -- ALoan (Talk) 16:58, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

'Etienne' is merely French for 'Stephen', so its actually the same name, even. linas 16:41, 21 May 2005 (UTC)

Table in phosphine page

Herbee,

I notice that you put in a table for phosphine, a welcome addition, thanks. I was curious to know what you used as a template- was it modelled on another page? I hope you're not having to write it from scratch! For simple inorganics we have the {{subst:chembox_short_inorganic}} template- for an example see zinc chloride, this should be convenient for most things with a little adaptation. Thanks again, Walkerma 22:30, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Team member request

Hey my name is AJ, and I was wondering if you would commit to my new project on isotopes. I am in need of someone who is good at tables for our table is still being tweaked and changed. If you do not have the time would you at least lend a hand in making a proposal for a standardized version of the isotope template? The current version is on the first three hydrogen isotope entries, or on the bottom of the project page. Thanks! oo64eva (AJ) 15:15, Apr 5, 2005 (UTC)

Images

I am a baffled reader who stumbled upon the "Triangles" article, where I found that all images were made by you, I would like to know how you made the images because they are, as said of very good quality.

Public domain image problems

Hi there! I noticed that you have placed some of your image contributions in the public domain. Unfortunately, it turns out that one can't place their work in the public domain, and so these image tags have been deprecated. I encourage you to replace the public domain tags on your images with free-use tags, which are similar in spirit, such as Template:Tl. Please reply on my talk page or Wikipedia talk: You can't grant your work into the public domain if you have any questions. Thanks. Deco 23:45, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
